1) While the coup was not ordered/orchestrated/organised by the Erdogan-Regime, it did know about it in advance and allowed it to happen or rather, forced it to happen earlier than planned and prepared worse than intended, and it used it as a justification for the purge that has been going on ever since.

2) Before the referendum, some expressed the hope that Erdogan would get more modest once he got what he wanted… that has never been true! They (tyrants, dictators, etc.) get more paranoid and more extreme as their power grows.

3) Despite an extremely unfair referendum with straight out fraud, it only just passed, meaning that probably a majority of Turks voted against it and if the opposition hadn’t been suppressed as it has been, there would have probably been a comfortable majority against it.

Evidence for this is:
– Erdogan’s statement that this coup is a present from God because it provides a reason to cleanse the military and all other institutions
– this statement was made while the coup was still in progress and its outcome still uncertain
– so far over 160k government employees have been fired or suspended, 50k have been arrested, 180 media companies have been closed and about 150 journalists have been jailed.
– a state of emergency was declared 5 days after which has allowed Erdogan to rule by decrees ever since
– while it is ok to investigate and clean the system of all those involved in the coup, here the criteria were set so broadly that they practically could include anyone and it turned into a witch hunt for people not liked by Erdogan
– in the night of the coup, Fethullah Gülen was declared to be the mastermind behind the coup, without any investigation or any room for doubt
– a parliamentary commission set up to investigate did not question any of the following people (all important commission positions were held by members of the AKP): the president, the head of government, heads of the intelligence services, head of the joint chiefs of staff or even any prisoners involved in the coup
– 7.5 hours before the coup the intelligence services were warned by an army major (also not interviewed)
– the official version of the Turkish government is that Erdogan’s brother-in-law informed him about the coup, at a time when the heads of the intelligence services and joints chiefs of staff already knew about the coup for hours – if they knew about the coup in advance but did not inform the president about it, why weren’t they fired, prosecuted and jailed for treason? Because they did not commit treason!
– without the coup, there would not have been any presidential decrees, any suppression of the opposition and the media and no chance of winning the referendum
